19. When Should You Worry About Sudden Hand Numbness?

This is one of the most important sections.

Sudden numbness should be treated differently from numbness that has gradually developed over weeks or months.

If numbness suddenly affects one side of your body—particularly the face, arm, or leg—it may be a sign of a stroke.

Other warning signs include:

  • Facial drooping
  • Difficulty speaking
  • Trouble understanding speech
  • Sudden vision changes
  • Sudden severe dizziness
  • Loss of balance
  • Sudden severe headache
  • New weakness on one side

If these symptoms appear, seek emergency medical attention immediately.

Do not wait to see whether they disappear.

A transient ischemic attack, sometimes called a mini-stroke, can produce temporary neurological symptoms that resolve on their own but still requires urgent evaluation because it may signal an increased risk of a future stroke.

20. Numbness With Chest Pain Is Also Concerning

Hand or arm numbness accompanied by chest discomfort deserves immediate attention.
