A Dog Who Arrived at Exactly the Right Time

When Semper entered Mares’ life, she was already facing a tremendous challenge.

Cancer treatment can be physically and emotionally exhausting, and Mares found herself needing companionship during a period when she was particularly vulnerable.

Then came Semper.

The young husky quickly became more than just another member of the household. He became a steady presence during a difficult chapter of her life.

For Mares, having him nearby offered something that medicine couldn’t provide: simple companionship.

There were no complicated conversations.

No explanations were necessary.

Semper was simply there.

And that kind of presence can mean everything when someone is going through an overwhelming experience.

Then Everything Changed

Several years later, circumstances forced Mares and Semper apart.

In 2016, Mares needed to travel from Florida to California for additional medical treatment. At the time, her roommate agreed to look after Semper while she was away.
