What About a Straight Thumb?

The opposite claim sometimes appears in personality quizzes.

A relatively straight thumb may be associated with descriptions such as being practical, disciplined, determined, organized, or emotionally controlled.

Again, these are interpretations found in traditional palmistry or online personality content rather than established scientific conclusions.

A straight thumb simply indicates that the joints and surrounding tissues have a particular structure and range of movement.

It doesn’t tell us whether someone is organized.

A person with a very flexible thumb can be highly disciplined.

Someone with a straight thumb can be spontaneous and emotional.

Physical structure and personality don’t map onto one another that neatly.

Why Do These Personality Descriptions Feel So Accurate?

This is one of the most interesting parts of the phenomenon.

Imagine a personality test tells you:
