Another recording mentioned increasing Rosalie’s medication if she resisted.
The courtroom fell silent.
Then Emmett lost control.
“If your mother had not hidden that notebook, she would still be alive!”
The judge looked up sharply.
Further testimony revealed that Dr Callaway had heavily sedated Lorelei before her fall. When Emmett found her still breathing, he ordered the household not to call an ambulance until it was too late.
Rosalie stared at him.
“Why?”
“Because she was going to report me and destroy everything I built.”
“No,” Rosalie replied. “You lost everything the moment you decided money mattered more than human life.”
Federal officers arrested Emmett for fraud, unlawful confinement, attempted murder, and conspiracy in Lorelei’s death. Wesley was charged with forgery and arson, while Dr Callaway lost his licence and faced criminal prosecution.
As Emmett was taken away, he glared at Manuel.
“Everything you have came from me.”
