I Came Home From Prison and My Stepmother Said Dad Was Dead—Then the Cemetery Groundskeeper Handed Me His Key

He had placed documents there that Victoria and Travis did not know
existed.

At the bottom of the page was one instruction written twice.

DO NOT GO BACK TO THE HOUSE FIRST.

CALL NAOMI BROOKS.

Mason remembered Naomi.

She had been one of his father’s corporate attorneys years earlier.

During Mason’s criminal trial, she had disappeared from the company
without explanation.

Walter handed Mason an old flip phone and told him to make the call.

Naomi answered after the third ring.

The moment Mason gave his name, she went silent.

Then she asked where he was.

“Cedar Hill Cemetery.”

“Do you have a key?”

Mason looked down at the tag marked STORAGE UNIT 108.

“Yes.”

Naomi inhaled sharply.

“Then listen carefully. Don’t open that unit without me.”

Mason asked the question that mattered more than the storage locker.

“Is my father really dead?”

Naomi did not answer immediately.
