I Found a Strange Rock-Hard Object in an Airplane’s Cargo Pit – Does Anyone Know What It Is?

The environment around an aircraft is just as important as the aircraft itself.

In other words:

Found on an airplane does not necessarily mean made for an airplane.

What Should Someone Do With an Unknown Object Like This?

If you find an unidentified object in an aviation environment, especially in or around an aircraft, the sensible approach is to follow workplace procedures rather than handling it casually or trying to break it apart.

That is particularly important in regulated environments.

An unknown object could be harmless biological material.

It could be debris.

It could be maintenance-related material.

It could be contamination.

Or, in rare situations, it could be something operationally important.

Photographing it and reporting the discovery to the appropriate maintenance, safety, or supervisory personnel is preferable to assuming what it is.

The image itself can then be examined without unnecessarily disturbing the object.

Don’t Crush It Just to Find Out What Is Inside

An object that looks like dried mud may contain biological remnants.
