I Found a Strange Rock-Hard Object in an Airplane’s Cargo Pit – Does Anyone Know What It Is?

Then another.

Then another.

As the chambers accumulate, they can create a larger mass.

Why It Doesn’t Look Like a Typical Wasp Nest

When most people hear “wasp nest,” they imagine a large hanging structure made from papery material.

That’s usually what comes to mind when people think of social wasps or hornets.

Mud daubers are different.

Their nests are made from mud rather than paper.

This changes the entire appearance.

A paper nest tends to look light, layered, fibrous, and thin.

A mud nest can look heavy, rough, dense, and stone-like.

That difference explains why a dried mud nest can easily fool someone who encounters one without seeing the animal that made it.
