I Joined A Charity Race—Then Watched My Husband Cross The Finish Line Holding Another Woman’s Hand.

“Claire.”

Daniel was standing several feet away.

Laura wasn’t with him.

“Where is she?” I asked.

“She left.”

I nodded.

“Good.”

He looked exhausted.

“Can we please go home and talk?”

I stared at him.

“You mean the home you told her I moved out of?”

His face tightened.

“I panicked.”

“For four months?”

He didn’t answer.

I looked at his left hand.

“Where’s your wedding ring?”

He glanced down.

“I took it off for the race.”

“Why?”

“It’s uncomfortable when I’m running.”

“You wear it to the gym.”

Silence.

I looked away.

Every explanation seemed to create another question.

I was tired of asking them.

But there was one thing I needed to know.

“How did you meet Laura?”

He hesitated.

“Through work.”

“And you told her we were separated?”

“Claire, it’s complicated.”

I shook my head.

“Stop calling it complicated.”

He stared at me.
