I owned the controlling interest.
There were minority incentive interests held through an employee plan,
but nobody could simply vote me out because I was sick.
Yet the document listed Paige Miller as acting creative director.
My pulse jumped.
Gregory returned.
“Here.”
He gave me hospital water.
Not the broth.
That was deliberate on my part.
I took one sip.
He pushed the folder closer.
“Sign.”
“I can’t hold the pen.”
“I’ll help you.”
He put the pen between my fingers.
I let it fall.
Gregory cursed under his breath.
Then Hannah entered.
“Mr. Palmer, the doctor needs the patient alone for a few minutes.”
He smiled instantly.
“Of course.”
He closed the folder.
Hannah pointed to the thermos.
“That needs to leave with you.”
Gregory picked it up.
Before he reached the door, two investigators entered with hospital
security.
The change in his face was almost invisible.
