Tobias knew. He found out in 2017 and he never told his mother he knew.
And from the March of 2017 until the week he died, my husband transferred four hundred and forty dollars a month to Nuala Breen, out of an account his family did not look at, and never once told anybody including me until 2019.
PART 3 — SIX YEARS
Here is my part.
Tobias told me in the spring of 2019, about four months after we got together properly.
And from 2019 to that doorstep, I sat at that woman’s table at Christmas and at two birthdays a year and listened to Eleanor Vessing talk about wanting grandchildren.
I heard her say there was never any child in front of eleven people at a table in 2021.
And I said nothing.
Six years.
I told myself it was not mine to say. That it was Nuala’s, and Posy’s, and Tobias’s, and that a woman marrying into a family does not detonate it at a dinner.
