“You expected all of this?”
“I prepared for the possibility.”
“That’s different.”
“Yes.”
“You didn’t want it to happen.”
“No.”
“But you were ready.”
“Yes.”
“And you waited because if you had directly fought my mother, I would have defended her.”
“Yes.”
“I would have made you the enemy.”
“Yes.”
“So you let her keep going.”
“Yes.”
“Until the facts stopped her.”
“Exactly.”
Felix returned home.
That did not magically repair our marriage.
Real damage doesn’t disappear because someone finally understands how it happened.
We had long conversations.
Painful ones.
Uncomfortable ones.
Felix told me he couldn’t simply cut his mother out of his life.
“I’m not asking you to.”
“What she did was wrong.”
“Yes.”
“She deliberately interfered.”
“Yes.”
“And I allowed her to.”
“Yes.”
“I can’t undo that.”
“No.”
“But I can make different choices from now on.”
“Yes.”
“When she pushes, I have to tell her where the line is.”
