Records in the early nineties weren’t connected the way they are today.
By the time Thomas returned, Diane claimed I had gotten sick and died.
She even produced a forged death certificate.
My stomach turned.
“You kidnapped me.”
Diane flinched.
“I raised you.”
“You kidnapped me.”
“I gave you a family.”
“You stole mine!”
“I SAVED YOU!”
The words exploded from her.
“You would’ve gone to some man you barely knew! I was your family!”
“He was my uncle!”
“I was your family too!”
Thomas spoke quietly.
“So was Eleanor.”
Diane looked away.

Much of it remained protected because I couldn’t access it until specific age milestones.
Diane discovered the trust when I was sixteen.
