Turn the slats in the opposite direction and repeat.
This dry-cleaning step prevents loose dust from turning into muddy streaks when moisture is introduced.
### Step 2: Prepare the cleaning solution
Fill a bowl with warm water and add two or three drops of mild dishwashing liquid.
Mix gently. Do not use too much soap, as excess detergent can leave a sticky residue that attracts more dust.
For vinyl or aluminum blinds with greasy buildup, you may add a small splash of white vinegar. Do not use vinegar on real wood, natural stone window surrounds, or surfaces whose manufacturer advises against acidic cleaners.
Never mix vinegar with bleach or any product containing chlorine.
### Step 3: Put the sock over your hand
Place a clean sock over your hand like a glove. Dip the fingertips lightly into the cleaning solution, then squeeze out as much water as possible.
The sock should be damp, not dripping wet.
