Emily looked down at her wedding ring.
Forgiveness had not been one conversation.
Trust had not returned because Mark apologized.
Their family had not survived because she forgot what happened.
It survived because she remembered something more important:
She was allowed to choose what came next.
And eventually, after watching Mark make the same choice through hundreds of ordinary mornings and difficult nights, she had chosen him again.

“Faith wanted water.”
“Of course she did.”
“And Grace heard us, so she also needed water.”
“Naturally.”
“Then Lily woke up and said she didn’t want water but felt excluded.”
Emily laughed.
Mark sat beside her.
From upstairs came three small voices.
“Daddy!”
Mark closed his eyes.
Emily grinned.
“Your public awaits.”
He stood.
At the doorway, he looked back at her.
“You coming?”
Emily rose and took his hand.
“Always.”
Together, they went upstairs.
