Marcus Finally Understood Caleb’s Last Promise
That evening, Marcus asked Diane to meet him at the house.
He had something to show her.
It was an old notebook.
Inside were Caleb’s handwritten plans for the community home.
But the final page contained something Marcus had never noticed.
At the top was written:
“If Mom ever finds out about this…”
Then several lines had been crossed out.
Underneath was one sentence:
“She’ll probably be proud.”
Marcus smiled.
“I think he was right.”
Diane touched the page.
“He knew me too well.”
Three Years After the Day Everything Changed
On the third anniversary of Caleb’s death, the community held a small gathering.
There were no speeches about tragedy.
No dramatic ceremony.
Instead, people brought food.
Children played in the garden.
Dogs ran around the yard.
Residents who had once arrived with nothing now had jobs, apartments, and lives of their own.
Some returned simply to say thank you.
