Not because he appeared on television or sought attention.
Quite the opposite.
Vincent was the kind of man people whispered about in expensive restaurants and private clubs. He was surrounded by rumors, secrets, and unanswered questions. Some people called him dangerous. Others called him a businessman. Most people simply avoided saying his name too loudly.
Daniel slowly lowered his hand.
“You called him?”
The fear in his voice was different from the fear Lena had carried for years.
And for the first time, she noticed something.
Daniel was afraid of someone too.
“You don’t understand what you’ve done,” Daniel whispered.
Lena looked at him through tear-filled eyes.
“No.”
Her voice was weak.
But it was there.
“I finally understand what I’ve done.”
Daniel frowned.
“What does that mean?”
“It means I called someone because I was scared you would hurt me again.”
The words surprised even her.
