I decided families might work the same way.
Denise came to stand beside me.
“You’re not going to ask her?”
“I am.”
“When?”
“When Ethan isn’t five feet away holding cheesecake.”
“He has excellent hearing.”
“Exactly.”

“I heard that.”
Denise laughed.

Jonathan was nearby talking with Dr. Feldman. From the little I could hear, she was explaining the academic program to him.
He asked sensible questions.
Not what will Ethan achieve?
Not how famous could he become?

Whether he had friends his own age.
