A period without a romantic partner does not automatically eliminate desire.
Some women find that their priorities change. They may become more interested in emotional compatibility than physical
attraction alone. Others may discover that they enjoy their independence and prefer to seek intimacy only when a relationship feels genuinely right.
Some may miss affection or sexual connection but decide that being single is preferable to entering a relationship that does not meet their needs.
Others may eventually meet someone with whom they want to build a partnership.
There is no single biological or psychological timeline that applies to all women.
It is also important to distinguish sexual desire from emotional connection. A person can want affection without wanting sex, want sex without wanting a committed relationship, or prefer companionship without either.
If a woman notices a sudden and distressing change in sexual desire, especially alongside other symptoms or after starting a medication, discussing it with a healthcare professional may be helpful.
