Yesterday in a parking lot, I witnessed a heated argument. A woman was yelling at a guy that he needed to move his car immediately because he was parked in a purple parking space. The guy said he knew what he was doing and had the right to park there, but the woman kept insisting. I had to leave because I was with my kids, but what was that about? Who are the people who can park in purple parking spaces?

Therefore, if you’re trying to determine whether you can legally or properly park there, don’t rely on the color alone.

Check the signs.

Check the pavement markings.

Check the parking rules for that facility.

If necessary, ask management or local parking authorities.

And if you still aren’t sure, choose another space.

## What Probably Happened in That Parking Lot?

As for the argument I witnessed, I still don’t know who was right.

The woman may have been trying to protect a restricted space.

The man may have had a valid permit.

Maybe one of them misunderstood the rules.

Maybe the parking lot had a specific policy that neither person fully understood.

Without knowing the location and seeing the signs, there simply isn’t enough information to determine the truth.

And that’s perhaps the most important lesson from the whole incident.

A strange-colored parking space is not something to interpret based on assumptions.
