Look at the Large Rock Formations
If you’re struggling to find the man, don’t start with the smallest objects.
Pay attention to the large shapes in the foreground and central areas of the illustration.
The rocks and darker areas are especially important because they create strong boundaries and shadows.
Try imagining that the landscape has been rotated or mentally reorganized.
Ask yourself:
Where could the forehead be?
Where might the nose be?
Where would the chin fall?
Which shapes could form the brim of a hat?
You aren’t necessarily looking for literal facial features.
You’re looking for a pattern that resembles them.
The Hat Is an Important Clue
The challenge specifically mentions a man wearing a hat.
That clue can help your brain search for a particular silhouette.
A hat typically creates a horizontal or curved shape above the head.
Once you recognize the hat, the rest of the face may become easier to identify.
