She looked about four years old.
Dakota touched the edge of the photograph.
“Her name is Lily.”
I stared at the girl’s face.
“Who is she?”
Dakota looked toward Tony one last time.
Then she answered.
**“Lily is Tony’s daughter.”**
I couldn’t move.
Four years.
For four years, I’d believed my husband and I were waiting to start our family together.
All that time, he already had a child.
I looked toward him.
“You knew about her the entire time?”
He nodded.
I tried to understand.
“Were you there when she turned one?”
“No.”
“Did you see her take her first steps?”
He looked down.
“Jennifer, I wanted to tell you.”
“But you didn’t.”
He was silent.
I turned toward Dakota.
“Does Lily know Tony is her father?”
She shook her head.
I stared at my husband.
“You have a four-year-old daughter who doesn’t know who her father is?”
