“What truth?”
Tony shifted uncomfortably.
“It’s not what you think.”
“I haven’t told you what I think.”
“Dakota’s being dramatic.”
“About what?”
He looked away.
“Can we discuss this tonight?”
“No.”
“Jennifer, I have an important meeting.”
“And apparently our neighbor knows something about my marriage that I don’t.”
I turned toward Dakota’s house.
Tony reached for my arm.
“Jen, wait.”
I kept walking.
I knocked on Dakota’s door.
She opened it and immediately looked nervous.
I held up the note.
“What is this?”
She glanced toward Tony, who was still standing near his car.
“You should ask him.”
“I did. He won’t explain.”
She lowered her voice.
“He needs to tell you himself.”
I felt my stomach tighten.
“Are you having an affair with my husband?”
Her eyes widened.
“No!”
“Then why are you giving him secret messages?”
“Jennifer, please. This is something he needs to explain.”
