I Joined A Charity Race—Then Watched My Husband Cross The Finish Line Holding Another Woman’s Hand.

I shook my head.

“I packed a bag for you.”

He glanced toward the small suitcase near the hallway.

“Claire…”

“I need some space.”

“This is my home too.”

“I know. I’m asking you to stay somewhere else tonight.”

He looked as though he wanted to argue.

Then he saw my expression and stopped.

“Where am I supposed to go?”

“I don’t know.”

Usually, I would have tried to solve that problem for him.

I would have suggested a hotel.

Or his brother’s house.

Or a friend’s spare room.

But I couldn’t keep handling every difficult decision for someone who’d made so many important choices without including me.

Daniel pulled out a chair.

“Can I sit?”

I nodded.

He looked at his unused race bib.

Then at my medal.

“I’m sorry.”

I didn’t answer.

“I know that isn’t enough.”

“No,” I said quietly. “It isn’t.”
