The Broken Waitress Called the Most Feared Man in New York — But She Had No Idea What He Would Reveal

“Who was he?”

Vincent looked toward the window.

“He was the reason I gave you that card.”

“Why?”

Because the answer that followed was one Lena would remember for the rest of her life.

“Because your father saved my life.”

She stared at him.

“That’s impossible.”

“No.”

Vincent looked back at her.

“What’s impossible is that you survived twenty-eight years without anyone telling you who you really are.”

Lena’s heart raced.

“What does that mean?”

Vincent reached into his coat and placed an old envelope on the table.

Her name was written across the front.

Not Lena Carter.

Another name.

A name she had never seen before.

A name that belonged to a family she never knew.

“Before you open that,” Vincent said quietly, “you need to understand one thing.”

“What?”

“Someone else has been looking for you.”

Lena looked at the envelope.

“Who?”

Vincent’s expression changed.
