The lake sat nearby, adding to the isolation of the scene.

Jason watched the birds as he approached the cargo hold.
Their calls grew louder.
Several birds moved lower.
But they did not attack Jason.

Jason opened the hold.
At first, nothing appeared unusual.
There were containers and freight arranged in what looked like a normal shipment.
Nothing immediately explained why an enormous flock of birds had chased the aircraft.
Jason began examining the cargo more carefully.

Jason moved the freight aside.
