The Wallet, the Pink Notice, and the Family Secret That Had Waited Twelve Years12

“That sounds convenient.”

“It was.”

Claire looked at him for a long moment.

Ruby watched both adults.

Neither raised a voice.

But there seemed to be an entire conversation underneath the one she could hear.

Nathaniel reached for the pink eviction notice.

“Then today your daughter walked into my lobby carrying this.”

He tapped the company name.

“Aldridge Residential Holdings.”

Claire frowned.

“You said that company shouldn’t exist.”

“It didn’t twelve years ago.”

Daniel Cho, the attorney, spoke for the first time.

“We checked its corporate registration while you were coming here. Aldridge Residential Holdings was incorporated eighteen months ago.”

Claire stared at him.

“By whom?”

Daniel placed a printed page on the table.

“The listed manager is a company called Voss Property Administration.”

No one spoke.

Even Ruby understood that name.

“Is that the same Voss?” she asked.

Daniel nodded.

“Malcolm Voss’s son, Evan, runs it now.”
