Inside were copies of tenant signatures, deposit receipts, meeting notes, and correspondence.
Near the bottom was a cream-colored envelope.
Claire pulled out the letter.
Mr. Harris recognized it immediately.
“That’s the one.”
Claire unfolded it.
The letter stated that the cooperative purchase had been canceled because financing requirements could not be met.
Enclosed had been a refund.
But in the bottom right corner was something strange.
Claire pointed.
“This isn’t Graves letterhead.”
Mr. Harris shrugged.
“I didn’t notice back then.”
It came from a company called Northbridge Asset Services.
Ruby watched her mother scan the page again.
Then Claire found another sheet inside the envelope.
A photocopy of the cashier’s check.
At the bottom was a bank routing notation and a handwritten reference number.
Claire took out her phone.
“I’m sending this to Sofia.”
It was almost nine.
Sofia Ramirez called eight minutes later.
Claire put her on speaker.
